The garden has always been home to a number of these lovely flies but it’s only recently since purchasing BRITISH HOVERFLIES AN ILLUSTRATED IDENTIFICATION GUIDE - by Alan Stubbs and Steven Falk and using the keys in the book to identify the different species that it has become apparent just how many. Quite a few I had previously thought were bees or wasps have turned out to be mimicing hoverflies.
